New Media.

Many people see new media art without viewing it as a piece of art. Every thing around us in digital form is new media art. but people dont look at it as art but as something else.
These new media outlets can be in any digital form, whether its a music video you watch on MTV or whatever but all these things are most probably designed by artists but because they are things we see every day and not in a gallery then they arent seen as a form of art.

Design and Visual recording - VJam

We were given a brief on friday called VJam.
VJam is the works on the same bacis as a DJ but insted of someone using music or MIDI files to create a music track they use video clips on a loop to either create a Visual and Audio display or to accompany a track performed by someone else.

in this brief we will be taking up the role of the VJ or Visual Jockey.

we will choose a track that in our minds creates different visuals that we can put in the VJ performance.

to complete the task (as it would be alot of work to do alone) we will be put into groups, each member taking control of certain parts of the project eg porject coordinator or advertising director.

i am not sure which part i would like to do in the group but i will decide that later i guess maybe when we are i our groups.

the project itself (although sounds quite daunting) sounds like it could be un if the work is done. and the group works well together.

(11/11/07)

we have been put into our groups now and i am quite happy about the group i have been put in. I am in a group with Jack and Will. my role in the group is teh advertising coordiator.

Moving Image, Chase Sequence

Ok well, the brief we have been given is to create a Chace sequence lasting about 3 - 4 minutes.

I am quite excited about this breif because as soon as i got it i started to haveloads of ideas, that i could film and edit to make an action packed clip.

some of the ideas i have had, without doing any research are a parkour chase (a bit like the new james bond sequence.) a horror type chace, (9where the thing that is doing the chasing is not shown until the end, but clues are given into what it could be.)

I have done some research already, well i have looked at one sequence and i am writing it up! but i think i will probably look at some other chase sequences and i think i will look at them from different eras as well.

Event

(31/10/07) Hello there Everybody,
First of all i can't wait to start organising this and to be honest I rekon its gonna be GREAT!
well you all know about the miricle of Throwies, well me, Joshua Lines (with the help of Neibourghhood) are going to organise an event Specially for the little buggers.
We are just going through some first ideas at the moment but already we have settled on a location, so all we have to do about that is speak to the council (and a meeting for that has already been organised) Although we aren't sure on what exactly is going to be in the event and what to call it we have some ideas, these are:

  • covering the bandstand in metal sheats and covering it with throwies,
  • getting a huge projector to show some of the VJAM pieces.
  • using the projector to show some other moving image pieces,
  • Having a DJ or 2,
  • Maybe a couple of live bands?
  • sh*t loads of throwies,
  • did i mention the throwies?

Anyway we are pretty open to ideas at the moment as we are in extremely early planning stages of the event.
also if you would like to be involved in the organising of the event then feel free to talk to me, Josh or Nicola.

Ok then, an update (01/11/07)

Well after discussing between the three of us we have come up with what we want to be in the event definatly! these are:

  • THROWIES
  • LAZER TAGGING
  • Live Art
  • Centre Screen???
  • Hinckley and Bosworth Youth Council?
  • Vjam Live edit,
  • DIY lazer tag.

these are awsome things to do, and we hope to get a huge responce! but we shall work on it some more.

We Have also come up with a time line for the event with it being held in Feburary Half Term!!

More Soon..

(16/11/07) ok then me (Hybrid Design) and Josh Lines, (Slight of Hand design) went to the youth council Executive meeting last night to put forward our idea, This went really well especially when we told them about the laser taggign system. so well in fact they OFFERED to buy us the projector we needed so i am going todo some research into ho much the projector we need is going to cost and then start to compile a budget.

Short Skills Throwies

The brief we have been set is to create and use Throwies. These are small LED lights attached to a battery and taped to a magnet.the purpose of the throwies is to create pretty non-perminant graffiti.
I quite like the idea of throwies, I dont like graffiti when itis used as graffiti and not art. when it is used as art I it can be verry astheticaly pleasing, and it can transform something dull into a someting great to look at. So the idea of temporary graffiti is appealing to me, and many othre people i am sure, to create art, then take it off if its crap, then create another one. To me its great. Also it means that you can edit your design, take it off, start again, and it doesnt cost. Which is good, as i am Skint.

The website that will tell you how to make these ginius little lights.

I have been thinking about some locations to hold an event where, we can show off these magical little creations but also have the chance to create flat pieces of work or mabe even animation / moving image pieces.
These Locations Include:
The Mead
Castle Street
Council ffices
queens park
regent street
